The Oregon Clinic

The Oregon Clinic is pleased to welcome Charles R. Mueller, MD, FACS to its Surgical and Burn Specialists group in Portland. Dr. Mueller is a board-certified surgeon with more than 20 years of experience practicing rural healthcare. For the past 17 years, Dr. Mueller has served as surgeon and chief of surgery for the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri, where he also served as Chief of Medical Staff for nine years. He also previously served as a Major in the United States Air Force Medical Corps.
Nathan Kemalyan, MD shared why he recommended Dr. Mueller to join The Oregon Clinic – Surgical and Burn Specialists group: “Dr. Mueller has been a friend and colleague over many years, since we met in training in general surgery at OHSU. He practiced in his family hometown until his children were raised and has decided to bring his wife Anne-Marie back to her Portland home for the remainder of his career. As our group began to anticipate the retirement of our senior partner Dr. Joe Pulito, we were fortunate to learn of Dr. Mueller’s intentions and to discover that our mutual interests converged in this new relationship. He brings a skill set that extends our scope of practice, and we offer a multi-disciplinary program in which he can expand his own scope of practice in the burn and wound care area. I’m excited to have him back in Portland, joining us in the long tradition of service we have provided to the state and region.”
Dr. Mueller was born in Hazard, Kentucky to missionary parents and spent much of his childhood in Liberia. He moved back to the United States as a teenager to attend high school and college. After earning a BS in Public Administration from California Baptist College, Dr. Mueller went on to receive his medical education at University of California at Irvine, joining the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and graduating in 1987. He completed his general surgery internship and residency at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), residing in Portland from 1987 until 1993. While at OHSU, Dr. Mueller served as Clinical Fellow for the American Cancer Society’s Department of Surgical Oncology from 1990-1991.
“I am excited to join the physicians and staff at The Oregon Clinic – Surgical and Burn Specialists. My wife is a native Oregonian and I have been away from Portland for more than 20 years and we look forward to being back in this great community,” stated Dr. Mueller. “I have worked with Drs. Kemalyan and Eshraghi in the past and am honored to join their team of surgeons and serve our patients with the care and quality for which The Oregon Clinic physicians are known.”
Dr. Mueller belongs to a number of professional organizations including the Oregon Medical Association, the American Board of Surgery, and the American College of Surgeons. He is a founding board member of the nonprofit organization Dignity: Liberia and has served on the board of directors for the Texas County Food Pantry since 2001. Dr. Mueller is married to Anne-Marie, a nurse who attended OHSU, and together they have two adult sons.
Dr. Mueller practices at The Oregon Clinic – Surgical and Burn Specialists, 501 N. Graham Street, Suite 555, in Portland.
